Aiyuk, who had been seeking a lucrative extension to continue his tenure with the franchise, had reached a stalemate with the team, particularly after missing Wednesday’s practice.

However, both sides were ultimately able to reach an agreement, much to the relief of 49ers fans and the player himself.

General Manager John Lynch’s strong response to Aiyuk’s absence from practice seemed to play a pivotal role in pushing the negotiations forward.

With the new deal in place, Aiyuk is set to return to practice, as reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The successful negotiation also brought a sense of satisfaction to Aiyuk’s agent, Ryan Williams, who shared a screenshot of a celebratory Facetime call with Aiyuk, stating, “We worked hard for that smile.”

Aiyuk is coming off an impressive 2023 season, where he played a key role in the 49ers’ playoff journey to the Super Bowl.

Throughout the regular season, Aiyuk hauled in 75 receptions for 1,342 yards, averaging 17.9 yards per catch—a career-high—and scored seven touchdowns in 16 games.

His strong postseason performance further solidified his value, recording nine receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown.

With Aiyuk’s contract situation now resolved, the 49ers can fully focus on their Super Bowl ambitions, starting with their season opener against the New York Jets on September 9 at 8:15 p.m. ET.

The extension ensures that Aiyuk remains a critical part of the team’s offensive arsenal as they aim to secure a championship title.
