Caitlin Clark Named 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Falls Just Short of Unanimous Vote

Caitlin Clark secures 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year with 66 out of 67 votes. Angel Reese receives the remaining vote, preventing a unanimous win for Clark.

BollywoodFever: Nearly a week after Shams Charania reported Caitlin Clark‘s victory, the WNBA officially confirmed the Indiana Fever guard as the 2024 Rookie of the Year on Thursday. Clark secured 66 of the 67 votes for the award, falling just one vote short of a unanimous win, as Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, her long-standing rival, received the final vote.

Locker Room Celebration After Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA History with First Rookie Triple-Double

Had Clark received all 67 votes, she would have made history as the first guard in WNBA history to be unanimously named Rookie of the Year. Instead, Reese prevented the achievement, marking the fifth time a player has missed out on the unanimous selection. The previous unanimous winners were all forwards, including Clark’s Fever teammate Aliyah Boston (2023), Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson (2018), Elena Delle Donne (2013), and Tina Charles (2010).

Clark’s rookie season was nothing short of historic. She broke the WNBA single-season assist record, racking up 337 assists in 40 games, surpassing Alyssa Thomas’ previous record of 316. Clark also led Indiana to their first postseason appearance in eight years, distinguishing herself from Reese, who had a stellar but injury-shortened season with the Chicago Sky.

Reese, despite missing six games due to a wrist injury, made her own mark by breaking Candace Parker’s record for most consecutive double-doubles in a season. She also set the single-season rebounding record, though A’ja Wilson later surpassed her in that category.

Clark and Reese have provided their respective teams, the Fever and the Sky, with much to look forward to, ensuring an exciting future for WNBA fans.
