Cholera Outbreak in Sudan Claims 22 Lives Amidst Ongoing Conflict and Flooding
Sudan faces a deadly cholera outbreak with 22 deaths and hundreds sickened. The crisis deepens amidst ongoing conflict and devastating floods.
Sudan, Bollywood Fever: Sudan is currently grappling with a cholera outbreak that has claimed the lives of nearly two dozen people and sickened hundreds more in recent weeks, according to health authorities.
The outbreak comes at a time when the African nation is already reeling from a 16-month conflict and devastating floods.
Health Minister Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim announced in a statement that at least 22 people have died from cholera, with 354 confirmed cases reported across the country.

While Ibrahim did not specify the time frame for these figures, the World Health Organization (WHO) provided additional context, reporting that as of July 28, there were 78 cholera-related deaths and over 2,400 cases recorded in Sudan since the beginning of the year.
The cholera outbreak adds to the mounting challenges faced by Sudan, which has been plunged into turmoil since April last year.
The chaos began when tensions between the military and a powerful paramilitary group escalated into full-blown warfare, exacerbating the country’s already dire humanitarian situation.
The spread of cholera, a waterborne disease often associated with poor sanitation and lack of clean water, is particularly concerning in the context of Sudan’s ongoing conflict and floods, which have further strained the country’s healthcare system and infrastructure.
