The movie is a real life story based on Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained “dangal” to 6 girls, 4 of them were his very own while 2 were that of his brother. Interestingly, all of them won medals at some or the other level!
Lead actor Aamir Khan and director Nitesh Tiwari reportedly auditioned 3000 girls for the role of Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat, the two daughters of Mahavir Singh Phogat.
A training camp was setup for wrestling lessons specifically for the four girls. The training went for 6-7 months.
Dangal is the highest grossing Indian movie in the history of Indian films after surpassing Bahubali 2 by its release in China with more than 2000 crores.
Aamir’s mother recommended Sakshi for her role as she liked her performance in television shows.
The film was shot in reverse with the climax first where Aamir Khan plays and older character and the start was shot last where he plays younger character.
Salman Khan heaped praise on Dangal after watching it and said it’s better than his own movie Sultan.
The film was shot in Ludhiana village which were transformed to look like Haryana villages.
