Darwin Nunez Involved in Post-Match Brawl as Uruguay Exits Copa America
Liverpool star Darwin Nunez clashed with fans in a post-match brawl after Uruguay’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Copa America semi-final. The altercation involved players defending their families from drunken supporters.
Bollywood Fever: In a dramatic turn of events following Uruguay’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Copa America semi-final, Liverpool star Darwin Nunez was involved in a post-match brawl with supporters. The altercation took place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, where an emotional Nunez had to be restrained by security as he and his teammates clashed with fans.
The incident occurred shortly after the final whistle of the fiercely contested match, which saw Colombia advance to the final against Argentina. Video footage captured Nunez, along with teammates Jose Gimenez and Ronald Araujo, as the situation escalated.

Gimenez later explained on television that the players’ families, who were seated close to the fans, were “avalanched” by drunken supporters, prompting the players to intervene. “This is an embarrassment, there wasn’t one police officer to control them. We had to go and defend our own just because they can’t control their drinking,” Gimenez stated.
The brawl began when a man in a black polo shirt, identified by a credential around his neck, started punching a nearby Colombia fan after a drink was thrown towards the Uruguay players. This provoked Nunez to start throwing punches in response.
Amid the chaos, Nunez was seen consoling his baby son on the field. Supporters screamed as the brawl unfolded, and children were handed off to Uruguay staff for safety. Other Uruguay players, including Maximiliano Araujo and Sebastian Caceres, were also involved near the fans.
To ensure their safety, the families of Uruguay players were escorted out of the stadium through a different exit, as reported by Favian Renkel.

Uruguay manager Marcelo Bielsa commented on the incident, saying, “I went to the locker room…the Uruguayan players were thanking the Uruguayan fans for their support,” but he admitted he did not witness the entire altercation.
The brawl followed a tense match filled with heavy tackles and contentious decisions. Colombia’s Daniel Munoz was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the first half, while James Rodriguez was booked for vehemently protesting with the referee. Liverpool’s Luis Diaz was frequently fouled, and a significant moment of controversy arose when Uruguay continued playing despite Richard Rios being injured and eventually stretchered off.
Colombia secured their victory through a Jefferson Lerma header, setting up a final against Lionel Messi and Argentina in Miami on Sunday.
