Donald Trump Withdraws from ABC Debate, Agrees to Face Kamala Harris on Fox News
Donald Trump has canceled his scheduled debate on ABC News and will now face Kamala Harris on Fox News on September 4. Read more on the debate shift and reactions from both campaigns.
Bollywood Fever: Donald Trump has backed out of his previously scheduled presidential debate on September 10 on ABC News. Instead, the former president announced on Truth Social early Saturday that he has agreed to debate Kamala Harris on Fox News on September 4.
In his post, Trump wrote, “The Debate was previously scheduled against Sleepy Joe Biden on ABC, but has been terminated in that Biden will no longer be a participant, and I am in litigation against ABC Network and George Slopadopoulos, thereby creating a conflict of interest.”

Trump had initially agreed to the ABC debate two months after filing his lawsuit against the network, and George Stephanopoulos was never set to moderate it.
He continued in his post that the Fox News debate will take place in Pennsylvania and be moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. “The Rules will be similar to the Rules of my Debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his Party – BUT WITH A FULL ARENA AUDIENCE,” he concluded, referring to the June 27 debate between Biden and Trump, which led to Biden withdrawing his re-election bid and endorsing Harris as the Democratic nominee.

Kamala Harris responded to a screenshot of Trump’s post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “It’s interesting how ‘anytime, any place’ becomes ‘one specific time, one specific safe place.’” She added, “I’ll be there on September 10th, like he agreed to. I hope to see him there.”
Her campaign communications director Michael Tyler also shared a statement on X, criticizing Trump for backing out of the original debate and urging him to commit to the September 10 date. “Donald Trump is running scared and trying to back out of the debate he already agreed to and running straight to Fox News to bail him out. He needs to stop playing games and show up to the debate he already committed to on Sept 10.”
As of now, it’s unclear if ABC will proceed with the debate. However, Trump posted an ultimatum on Truth Social, writing, “I’ll see her on September 4th or, I won’t see her at all,” according to The New York Times.
Trump’s withdrawal from the ABC debate comes shortly after he questioned Harris’ identity as a Black woman during a live Q&A panel at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago. He remarked, “She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage…I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black.”
Harris’ campaign responded to these comments, highlighting the division and hostility in Trump’s rhetoric. “The hostility Donald Trump showed onstage today is the same hostility he has shown throughout his life, throughout his term in office, and throughout his campaign for president,” said Michael Tyler. He further added that Trump’s remarks at the convention reflect the division he will continue to bring, contrasting it with Harris’ vision of unity and opportunity for all Americans.
