ESPN Anchor Gary Striewski Takes a Jab at Florida State Ahead of College GameDay

ESPN’s Gary Striewski took a playful shot at Florida State on College GameDay, stirring up old rivalries ahead of the Seminoles’ matchup against Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland.

Bollywood Fever: As the excitement builds for another Saturday of college football, ESPN’s College GameDay crew kicked things off with a bit of playful banter, with anchor Gary Striewski taking a jab at the Florida State Seminoles.

Striewski’s comments came as the Seminoles, who finished the 2023 regular season undefeated but missed out on a College Football Playoff berth, prepared to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Dublin, Ireland.

The Seminoles, who first reached the College Football Playoff in 2014 with Jameis Winston at quarterback, have faced a challenging season, particularly after their starting quarterback Jordan Travis suffered a season-ending injury against North Alabama

Backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker stepped in for the ACC Championship game against Louisville but also sustained an injury against the Florida Gators, making him unlikely to play if Florida State were selected for the playoff.

This left third-string quarterback Brock Glenn as the potential starter, casting uncertainty over the team’s postseason prospects.

Before the start of College GameDay, Striewski engaged in a bit of trash talk with his fellow anchors.

In a playful exchange, Striewski took the side of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, stirring the pot by downplaying Florida State’s significance.

“…Listen up, that team ain’t even the school in Florida,” Striewski quipped. “Tallahassee might as well be South Georgia. The further north you go, the more south you get.”

The comment was a playful nod to the rivalry between the two programs, which has seen its share of memorable moments.

In 2015, Florida State attempted a game-winning field goal against Georgia Tech, only for the Yellow Jackets to block it and return it for a touchdown, securing an unexpected victory. The Seminoles got their revenge in 2022 with a dominant 41-16 win.

As fans gear up for the noon ET kickoff on ESPN, the Seminoles and Yellow Jackets are set to add another chapter to their storied rivalry, this time on the international stage in Dublin.

While Striewski’s remarks were all in good fun, they add an extra layer of intrigue to a game that both teams will be eager to win.

Florida State fans, already disappointed by missing out on the playoffs despite an undefeated regular season, will be hoping their team can overcome adversity and finish the season on a high note.

As for Georgia Tech, they’ll be looking to spoil the Seminoles’ plans once again, just as they did back in 2015.

No matter the outcome, the clash between Florida State and Georgia Tech is sure to be one to watch, with both teams seeking to make a statement in Dublin.
