Identities of Four Victims Released in Fatal Long Island Nail Salon Crash
Suffolk County Police have released the names of four victims killed in a Long Island nail salon crash. Details on the tragic incident and the suspect’s arrest.
Bollywood Fever: The Suffolk County Police Department has identified the four individuals who tragically lost their lives when an SUV crashed into a Long Island nail salon on Friday.
The victims are Jiancai Chen, 37, of Bayside, Queens; Emilia Rennhack, 30, of Deer Park; Yan Xu, 41, of Flushing, Queens; and Meizi Zhang, 50, of Flushing, Queens, as announced by the Suffolk County Police Department on Saturday.
Nine other people, including a 12-year-old girl, sustained injuries in the crash.
The incident occurred at Hawaii Nail & Spa on Grand Boulevard in Deer Park, where both customers and staff were present. According to police, an SUV drove through the front window of the salon.

Emilia Rennhack, one of the victims, was an off-duty New York City police officer getting her nails done at the time. She served at the 102nd Precinct in Queens. The New York City Police Department confirmed her death on Saturday. The NYC Police Benevolent Association expressed their sorrow, stating, “Please join us in praying for her family, friends, and coworkers.”
All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The injured individuals, aged between 12 and 58, were taken to local hospitals. Four are being treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries, while five others have been treated and released.
The driver, Steven Schwally, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He remains hospitalized and will be arraigned at a later date. Authorities allege that Schwally was driving a Chevrolet Traverse at a high speed through a parking lot, crossed over Grand Boulevard, and continued through the nail salon’s parking lot before crashing into the building.
