Manpreet Kaur, a 24-year-old student with dreams of becoming a chef, was eagerly anticipating her reunion with family in Delhi, a trip she hadn’t made in four years. Despite feeling unwell hours before arriving at the airport, she managed to board the flight on June 20 without issues.

However, just before the plane was set to take off, she passed away suddenly in her seat. The aircraft returned to the gate where emergency services and cabin crew attempted to save her, but it was too late.

Ravinder Singh, who was seated next to Ms. Kaur, shared his experience exclusively with news.com.au. “I was sitting next to her on the Qantas flight from Melbourne to Delhi and was actually the last person to talk to her,” he said.

Singh described how he initially interacted with Kaur when he needed to take his window seat. “When I boarded the plane, she was already seated in the aisle. I was in the window, so I asked if she could please get up so I could occupy my seat.”

He noticed Kaur scrolling through photos on her mobile phone, stopping at a photograph of an elderly couple. “I asked if they were her parents. She smiled and nodded and kept staring at it,” Singh recalled.

Everything seemed normal as the plane began moving towards the runway. Kaur put her phone down and rested her head on the seat in front. It was then that Singh realized something was amiss.

“She was wearing her seatbelt and leaned forward to rest her head on the seat in front. As the plane was preparing for takeoff, I wanted to alert her to sit upright,” Singh shared. “But the plane jerked and I expected her to wake up. Instead, her head just moved towards me.”

Singh immediately alerted a flight attendant, who checked Kaur’s pulse and summoned the cabin crew. “They tried their best to revive her. She was then evacuated by medical staff,” Singh said, commending the crew’s efforts.

In sharing this poignant account, Singh hopes to provide some comfort to Kaur’s parents during this unimaginable time. Her sudden passing on what was meant to be a joyous journey home underscores the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.

Manpreet Kaur’s untimely death is a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the enduring impact of compassionate gestures, even from strangers, in times of tragedy.
