Russia’s Central Bank Maintains Key Rate at 16% Amid Inflation Concerns

During its March meeting, Russia’s central bank decided to maintain its key interest rate at 16%, citing a less significant reduction in inflationary pressures than was observed towards the end of 2023.

The minutes from the meeting, released by the regulatory body, suggest that achieving disinflation may necessitate further increases in real interest rates.

The central bank also expressed caution against premature rate cuts, warning that such actions could trigger a resurgence of inflation, making it more challenging to manage.
