NFL News: The Minnesota Vikings, off to a 5-0 start, could explore a trade for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper to boost their depth as they push for a Super Bowl run. Learn more about their trade options.
NFL News: BollywoodFever: The Minnesota Vikings are enjoying their 5-0 start to the season after a well-timed bye week, providing much-needed recovery for key players battling injuries. With wide receiver Jordan Addison and tight end T.J. Hockenson nursing ailments, and running back Aaron Jones sidelined week-to-week, the Vikings have used this break to consider potential trade options ahead of the November 5 deadline.
One notable suggestion, raised by Akbar Gbajabiamila on the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, was for the Vikings to consider trading for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper. The Browns restructured Cooper’s contract, making him an attractive option with a minimal salary cap hit of just $1.2 million for any team acquiring him. The potential trade could be completed for a fifth-round pick, similar to Cleveland’s deal with the Dallas Cowboys in 2022.
Gbajabiamila noted the Vikings’ strong start and suggested that adding Cooper could provide the team with critical depth for a potential Super Bowl run. While the Vikings boast an impressive trio of pass catchers in Justin Jefferson, Addison, and Hockenson, and a strong fourth option in Jalen Nailor, who has 137 yards and three touchdowns this season, Cooper’s presence could bolster their chances in the postseason.
For the Vikings, a trade for Cooper would be a strategic move, especially with injuries threatening to impact their receiving corps. While not an absolute necessity, adding a proven talent like Cooper could solidify their offense and give quarterback Sam Darnold an extra weapon as the team looks to make a deep playoff run.
With Cooper’s contract structured for easy trading and his value high as a Pro Bowl receiver, the Vikings face a decision on whether they are willing to make a mid-season move for short-term gains.
