On a sunny day in April, Affaire A Suivre, ridden by jockey John Allen and trained by the Maher & Eustace team, emerged victorious in the prestigious Australasian Oaks horse race.

Victorian filly Affaire A Suivre continued John Allen’s stunning record in Adelaide scoring a big win in Saturday’s $502,250 Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained filly covered ground throughout in the 2000m before fighting off Perth filly She’s Fit in a driving finish.

Maher said getting out in trip and a second venture to Adelaide has been the making of the filly.

“She’s really come into her own,’’ Maher said.

“We had the visitors draw, he (Johnny Allen) did cover a fair bit of ground.

“First Light (Racing) have been long supporters of the stable and it’s about time I got a Group 1 for them,’’ he said.

So impressive was the win, Maher may follow a familiar path he took with Explosive Jack a few years back and take Affaire A Suivre to Queensland to continue what has been a brilliant campaign.

“She’s got a bright future,’’ Maher said.

“She may end up in Queensland,’’ he said.

The win enhanced John Allen’s amazing affinity with Morphettville, the top jockey quick to dedicate the win to close friend Dean Holland.

“I’d like to dedicate that to Dean Holland and his family,’’ Allen said.

“Three years ago we become close friends during COVID.

“You couldn’t have picked a better family to spend two weeks locked away with, so I really want to dedicate it to them.

“It’s hard to believe,’’ he said.

Champion jockey Craig Williams had a big day at the office winning the Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes for the two-year-olds aboard Treasurway and the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes with the Peter Moody-trained Red Sun Sensation.

And one of the most popular wins on the day coming from smart stayer Hasta La War who returned to winning for in the Port Adelaide Cup with Teagan Voorham in the saddle.
