Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams leads the team in receiving yards and touchdown catches as a freshman, with quarterback Jalen Milroe praising his determination and talent.
Bollywood Fever: Through just two games, Alabama freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams has already made a name for himself, tying for the most touchdown catches by a freshman in the country with three.
He also leads the Crimson Tide in receiving yards, and his quarterback Jalen Milroe summed up Williams’ talent in just three words: “he the truth.

Milroe saw Williams’ potential even before he arrived at Alabama. Reflecting on Williams’ determination, Milroe shared on The Pivot:
“While he was a recruit, he was talking about when he gets there (to Tuscaloosa), ‘Hey, whenever you want to run routes and catch, let me know cause I’m there.’ This is a guy who lives in Mobile, which is not near Tuscaloosa. He was willing to leave and come to Tuscaloosa. So, there’s so many things that people don’t know that make the guy special.”
Fans have already witnessed Williams’ game-changing ability, signature celebrations, and clever quotes like, “Four plus two does equal six,” referring to his and Milroe’s jersey numbers. But behind the scenes, Milroe describes Williams as a hard-working, ambitious player with an impressive attention to detail.
Milroe praised Williams’ smooth transition from high school to college, noting, “There’s a lot of great receivers in the country, but it was how he flipped the page from a high school 17-year-old to a college 17-year-old which is much different.”
Williams’ commitment to improvement even led him to request the same training plan that former Alabama star DeVonta Smith followed. “He went into the training room one day and he said, ‘Hey, can you put on the plan that DeVonta Smith was on?’ I said, ‘Oh we serious,’” Milroe recalled.
As the Crimson Tide hit the road for their next game, the pressure will only grow for Williams, but all signs point to this 17-year-old continuing to prove he’s no ordinary freshman.
