Alexis Sanchez admits he wanted to terminate his Manchester United contract after one day, reflecting on his troubled time at Old Trafford and his desire to return to Arsenal.
Bollywood Fever: Alexis Sanchez has revealed that he regretted joining Manchester United just one day after signing his contract.
The Chilean forward, who made a name for himself at Arsenal with 80 goals, confessed that his move to United in 2018 was filled with second thoughts.
Initially set to join Manchester City, Sanchez’s last-minute switch to United turned out to be a misstep.
Despite his stellar performances for Arsenal, Sanchez struggled to replicate his form at Old Trafford.
Under manager Jose Mourinho, the forward quickly realized things weren’t as expected. Reflecting on the move, Sanchez shared on Instagram:
Before, I had an agreement with Man City, but due to football issues, I accepted the opportunity to go to United… I didn’t ask for information on what was happening inside the club. After the first training session, I told my family and agent: ‘Can you not rip up the contract and go back to Arsenal?'”
Sanchez’s brief stint at Manchester United was far from successful, with just five goals in 45 matches before parting ways in 2020.
He moved to Inter Milan, where he found more success, scoring 20 goals over 109 appearances, before signing with Marseille in 2022.
Now at Udinese, Sanchez is currently recovering from a calf injury, with his debut expected in mid-October, according to Football London.
Sanchez’s situation highlights Manchester United’s struggles with high-profile transfers, while Arsenal have also faced their share of missteps, including the record signing of Nicolas Pepe in 2019.
However, Arsenal seems to have shifted focus under Edu and Mikel Arteta, emphasizing youth development and proven talent, such as Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.
