TikTok star Alix Earle addresses resurfaced screenshots of offensive comments from 2014, apologizing for her past words and clarifying rumors in an Instagram statement.
Bollywood Fever: Alix Earle, the popular TikTok influencer, has publicly addressed resurfaced screenshots from her ASKfm account dating back to the summer of 2014, where she was seen using a racist slur.
The screenshots, which have been circulating on social media, prompted Earle to break her silence and take responsibility for her past actions.
In an Instagram Story posted on August 26, Earle, now 23, explained,
“I am taking accountability and want to make it clear that I was 13 years old and did not understand the deeply offensive meaning behind that word.” While she acknowledges that her age at the time does not excuse the use of the slur, she emphasized that it is “not the way I speak or what I stand for.”
Earle expressed deep regret over the hurt her words have caused, stating,
“I am deeply sorry that my words have hurt many and have led people to believe that I have any prejudice in my heart. I promise you that could not be further from the truth. My platform has always focused on positivity, entertainment, and uplifting others, and will continue to do so. I am sincerely sorry to those I have offended.”
The influencer also reflected on how she handled the situation, admitting that she allowed
“too many people to talk me out of saying something for too long.” Although she intended to address the situation with care, she now recognizes that her prolonged silence was a mistake. “In the absence of my addressing this, my silence allowed others to fill the void with rumors that simply aren’t true,” she added.
Earle also addressed rumors circulating online, including claims that she was attempting to trademark her old posts and that a brand had cut ties with her over the controversy.
She clarified that there was no truth to these rumors, stating she had never been in conversations with the unnamed brand and was not trying to trademark her past comments.
“Regardless of what’s being said online,” she concluded, “I wanted to come on here to address the facts and most importantly apologize.”
The controversy gained traction after screenshots of the offensive comments were shared on the “Alix Earle Snark” page on Reddit in 2023 and later spread across TikTok and other platforms.
The podcast Do We Know Them? also discussed the situation in their August 12 episode, where hosts Jessi Smiles and Lily Marston mentioned receiving an email from Earle’s lawyers regarding the posts, although they clarified they had no affiliation with the subreddit.
While Earle has taken responsibility for her past words and clarified the situation, the incident serves as a reminder of the lasting impact that online comments can have, even years after they were made.
Earle’s apology highlights her commitment to maintaining a platform focused on positivity and growth.
