Amazon Appoints Miranda Wayland as Head of Diversity in Europe

The newly created role contributes to both the off-screen and on-screen representation of Prime Video.

Amazon has created a broad new European role to be the head of diversity, equity, and inclusion of Amazon Studios and Prime Video, and has hired one of the BBC’s top diversity staff, Miranda Wayland.

Wayland – who will join later this year – has spent five years at the BBC and is currently the head of a variety of arts, responsible for overseeing global diversity and broadcasting strategies throughout its outcome. Prior to joining the BBC, he was an ITV manager for ten years.

In Amazon, Wayland’s obligations will include working closer to European realities, business affairs, public policy, marketing, and other parties to bring plans to the U.K. and across Europe designed to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion across Prime Video and Amazon Studios.

The Hollywood journalist understands that his role will also contribute to both off-screen and on-screen representation of Prime Video.

The hiring comes less than a year after Amazon Studios released a comprehensive category inclusion policy and “playbook,” which includes guidelines for its participants in the creative community.

Although written to be specified by the US, European groups on the Amazon have since created their own adaptability.

Amazon Prime has been strengthening its operations in Europe, especially in the UK, where it recently signed a major agreement with Pinewood Group to control 450,000 square meters at its historic Shepperton Studios.
