An American Airlines jet made an emergency landing after a 25-year-old passenger allegedly exposed himself and urinated in the aisle. The man was arrested and charged with indecent exposure.
New York, Bollywood Fever: An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing after an unruly passenger allegedly exposed himself and urinated in the aisle. The incident occurred on a flight diverted back to Buffalo, New York, from New Hampshire on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old Oregon man involved, whose name has not been disclosed, was arrested and charged with indecent exposure. He was later released after appearing in a Buffalo federal court, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.
The passenger reportedly told police he had consumed several whiskey and colas before boarding his initial flight from Oregon and continued drinking heavily during a layover in Chicago. After the incident, the plane was able to resume its journey from Buffalo once the passenger was removed.
“We thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding,” American Airlines said in a statement.
According to the criminal complaint, the passenger claimed he got up to use the restroom and suffered a “medical urination problem” while returning to his seat.
This disruption came as millions of Americans prepared to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, with up to 32 million travelers flying across the nation.
In a separate incident the same day, a Delta Airlines flight from Detroit, Michigan, to The Netherlands was diverted to JFK Airport after it was discovered that a portion of the in-flight meal service was spoiled. Delta flight 136 had to make the emergency landing early Wednesday morning.
One frustrated passenger took to social media to ask how the airline planned to get them to Amsterdam after serving “contaminated” food. Delta apologized for the “inconvenience and delay,” stating, “Medical crews were on site to meet the aircraft and treat any affected passengers and crew members.”
Delta assured customers that they are investigating how the incident occurred and halted some meal options from its flights. “This is not the service Delta is known for, and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels,” the airline stated.
