Rookie Angel Reese sets a WNBA record with seven consecutive double-doubles, helping the Chicago Sky defeat the Dallas Wings 83-72 and end a four-game losing streak.
Bollywood Fever: Angel Reese made history by becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to record seven consecutive double-doubles. The former LSU star achieved this milestone with 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, leading the Chicago Sky to an 83-72 victory over the Dallas Wings, ending a four-game losing streak.
“It’s super exciting for myself,” Reese told ESPN. “I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job, but I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league.”
Reese, who is averaging 12.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, is on track to challenge Candace Parker’s all-time WNBA record of 12 straight double-doubles. Only two-time MVP A’ja Wilson is averaging more rebounds per game than Reese.
The Sky dominated the game from start to finish, leading by as much as 22 points in the third quarter. Although the Wings narrowed the gap to nine points in the fourth, they never threatened to overtake the Sky.
Marina Mabrey and Chennedy Carter led the Sky with 19 points each, while rookie Kamilla Cardoso was just shy of a double-double, finishing with nine points and 11 rebounds. For the Wings, Arike Ogunbowale posted a game-high 31 points.
With this victory, the Sky improve their season record to 5-9. They will next face Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever on Sunday. The Wings, now holding the second-worst record in the league at 3-11, will travel to face the Washington Mystics on Saturday.
