Apple has 21 days to respond by Cydia to an amended lawsuit
San Francisco: The media reported that Apple was denied an appeal by a US judge to dismiss an amended antitrust suit filed by Cydia, the creator of Cydia’s app store for jailbroken iPhones.
Cydia had 21 days to respond.
The Verge reports that Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, a California District Judge, denied Apple’s motion for dismissal.
Jay Freeman, a Cydia developer, first sued Apple in 2020. He claimed that Apple had “incorrectly acquired and maintained monopoly powers” in iOS app distribution.
Apple “deprived” third-party app stores of the “ability to compete with Apple’s App Store.”
In 2018, Freeman closed the Cydia shop.

According to the new complaint, Apple allegedly made more aggressive changes to iOS between 2018 and 2021 that prevented Cydia or other alternative app stores (i.e., iPhones) from receiving “useable” apps.
Epic Games, maker of Fortnite, challenged Apple’s position that third-party app stores could compromise iPhone security.
Epic stated in a new court filing that if Apple allows sideloading on Mac devices while still referring to those computers as secure, it can do the same with iPhone.
In Epic Games v. Apple District Court case, a US judge ruled that Apple didn’t have a monopoly on the relevant market.
California’s court ruled that Apple cannot prohibit developers from creating links to alternative payment systems beyond the App Store-based system.
Apple stated that sideloading could expose users’ most sensitive and private information.
