The Arizona Supreme Court validates a 200-word petition summary, allowing voters to decide on a constitutional right to abortion, with abortions permitted up to 24 weeks.

Arizona, Bollywood Fever: The Arizona Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that a 200-word summary used by advocates to gather signatures is valid, paving the way for voters to decide on a constitutional right to an abortion in the upcoming elections.

If passed, the measure would permit abortions until the point at which an embryo or fetus could survive outside the womb, typically around 24 weeks.

Exceptions would be allowed for later-term abortions to save the mother’s life or to protect her physical or mental health.

This decision comes just before the Thursday ballot printing deadline, ensuring that the measure will be included in the upcoming election.

The ruling follows a legal challenge by Arizona Right to Life, an anti-abortion organization that argued the petition summary misrepresented the core impact of the ballot initiative by failing to clearly state that it would overturn existing abortion laws.

Despite these objections, the court’s decision allows the measure to move forward, giving Arizona voters the opportunity to weigh in on this critical issue.
