Arsenal’s new signing Mikel Merino faces a few weeks out due to a shoulder injury, confirms manager Mikel Arteta. The midfielder will miss the upcoming match against Brighton.
Bollywood Fever: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that new signing Mikel Merino will be sidelined for a few weeks due to a shoulder injury, ruling him out of the upcoming home match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
The midfielder, who joined Arsenal from LaLiga side Real Sociedad earlier this week on a long-term contract, sustained the injury during a training session.
“Yes, very unfortunate. Yesterday he had a collision and he has a shoulder injury, unfortunately. It looks like he’s going to be out for a few weeks,” Arteta revealed to reporters on Friday.

The injury occurred when Merino landed awkwardly after a collision with teammate Gabriel Magalhaes, which may have resulted in a small fracture. “We have to see.
He was in so much pain. We’ll have to do some more tests on that and then we’ll have more conclusive answers,” Arteta added.
Brighton, who have started the season strongly with two consecutive wins, pose a significant challenge for Arsenal.
Arteta acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming match, noting Brighton’s strong performance under their new coach.
“We try to prepare like every manager and every team does by giving them the exact and relevant information that can help to win the game,” Arteta said. “It’s going to be a tough match.”
As the transfer deadline approaches, Arteta expressed satisfaction with his current squad. “I’m always happy with the squad. I think we have tremendous players, a magnificent group of human beings,” he stated.
“We always want to be better and we cannot deny that. The most important thing is to try to improve our own players and then in terms of the numbers and quality.”
