Bollywood Fever: Ashanti and Nelly have welcomed their first child together, the singer joyfully announced on Wednesday. The exciting news comes just a few months after the couple revealed they were expecting and engaged.
“Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time,” Ashanti wrote on Instagram, playfully referencing her 2001 hit song with Ja Rule, “Always On Time.”
The “Foolish” singer expressed her long-awaited joy at becoming a mother, writing, “I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings. This is what postpartum looks like… I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.”
In the post, Ashanti included a video of herself posing in a loungewear set, proudly telling the camera, “Four weeks postpartum. You have no idea what this body can do.”
A representative for the couple confirmed to People magazine that their new baby boy, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, was born on July 18, 2024. Kareem is Nelly’s fifth child and Ashanti’s first.
The couple first announced they were expecting in April, the same time they confirmed their engagement. Ashanti and Nelly initially dated in 2003 before parting ways in 2013, only to rekindle their romance in 2023.
