Bollywood Fever: Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal is set to miss most of the season after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the LaLiga club announced on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old sustained the injury to his left knee during Barcelona’s 2-1 victory at Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday, where he was forced to leave the pitch in the final minutes.
Bernal, who made his debut in Barca’s opening day win over Valencia, also sustained an associated injury to the external meniscus. “He will undergo surgical treatment in the coming days,” Barcelona confirmed in a statement.
The young midfielder’s injury is a significant blow for both him and the team as he was beginning to make his mark in the senior squad.
Barcelona will next face Real Valladolid in LaLiga on Saturday as they continue their campaign without the promising talent.
