Daddy Issues, starring Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey, returns for a second season on BBC after its successful debut as BBC3’s biggest comedy launch since 2022.
BollywoodFever: The popular BBC comedy Daddy Issues has been renewed for a second season, following its breakout success as the biggest comedy launch on BBC3 since 2022. The series stars BAFTA-winning actress Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education) and David Morrissey (The Walking Dead), and will continue after winning over audiences with its heartwarming and humorous first season.
Created by Danielle Ward (Brassic), the first season introduced viewers to Gemma (played by Lou Wood), a Stockport-based woman who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant after a casual hook-up. With her sister Catherine (Sharon Rooney) in prison and her mother Davina (Susan Lynch) off traveling, Gemma is forced to rely on her less-than-perfect father Malcolm (Morrissey) for support.
Produced by Fudge Park Productions, the company behind The Inbetweeners, Daddy Issues has garnered significant attention for its witty writing and endearing performances. Jon Petrie, BBC’s Director of Comedy, and Fiona Campbell, Controller of Youth Audience, have greenlit the six-part second season, alongside Seb Barwell.
The returning team includes director Damon Beesley (White Gold), producer Lynn Roberts (Man Like Mobeen), and executive producers Phil Gilbert (White Gold), Lou Wood, Morrissey, Ward, and Beesley. Fremantle will continue handling global sales.
Reflecting on her experience, Lou Wood said that Daddy Issues has been the “most fun I’ve ever had on a job,” while Morrissey praised Ward’s writing as “funny and heartwarming.” Ward expressed her excitement for the upcoming season, eager to dive into the continuing adventures of the show’s beloved characters.
