Ben Stokes will miss England’s first Test against Pakistan due to a hamstring injury but is confident in the team’s ability to handle the sweltering heat of Multan.

BollywoodFever: England captain Ben Stokes will miss the opening Test against Pakistan due to a lingering hamstring injury but remains confident that his team can handle the sweltering conditions in Multan. Stokes, who has been working hard to recover, admitted he is not yet fit to return to action and will continue his rehabilitation.

Ollie Pope will once again step in as captain, leading the side in Stokes’ absence, with Brydon Carse set to make his debut in a five-man attack. Stokes expressed confidence that the team will be able to withstand the intense heat, with temperatures reaching 37°C during training, and said the experience will be a test of character for the squad.

“It’s going to be tough but everyone knows how much it means to us to play for England, and there will be no shying away from what Popey asks them to do this week, even if it is hot and they are a bit tired,” said Stokes.

Despite being sidelined, Stokes remains fully committed to England’s long-term goals, having recently signed a new central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board, which includes next year’s Ashes series. He plans to be fit for the second Test and is optimistic about England’s chances, following their 3-0 victory on the last tour of Pakistan.

“We were always trying to do something to force a result… Ollie has got that experience from being part of the squad last time,” Stokes added, expressing confidence in Pope’s leadership.

The first Test will also see the return of Jack Leach, making his first appearance since January, as he partners with Somerset colleague Shoaib Bashir. Chris Woakes is set for his first overseas appearance in two and a half years.
