Germany, Bollywood Fever: Berlin police reported on Friday that they had made several arrests following an altercation involving “mostly Polish” spectators near a fan zone set up for the European Championship soccer games in the German capital.
The incident occurred as Poland played Austria in Group D on Friday in Berlin, with Austria securing a 3-1 victory. The clash erupted near the Brandenburg Gate when fans engaged in a skirmish with the event’s ushers. Police officers called to the scene were subsequently pelted with bottles and stones by the fans.
“Our colleagues used physical force, pepper spray, and batons and arrested multiple people,” Berlin police stated on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
A police spokesperson confirmed that the situation was brought under control but could not provide specific details on the number of arrests or injuries at this time. Both injured police officers and fans received medical attention.
