Phoebe Gates, daughter of Bill Gates, confirms her relationship with Arthur Donald, Paul McCartney’s grandson, while celebrating her Stanford graduation.
Bollywood Fever: Bill Gates’ daughter, Phoebe Gates, has officially confirmed her relationship with Paul McCartney’s grandson, Arthur Donald. The 21-year-old, whose father, the Microsoft founder, is worth a staggering $134 billion, celebrated her Stanford graduation with her new beau, ending months of speculation about their romance.
Phoebe, now a graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in human biology, referred to Arthur, 25, as her “boyfriend” in an online blog for Nylon. She shared a photo of Arthur giving her a piggyback ride with the caption, “My boyfriend, Arthur, giving me a lift post-ceremony.” Another picture from the day showed Phoebe with her arms wrapped around Arthur, captioned, “He cleans up nicely.”
The couple first made headlines in October 2023 when Phoebe posted a photo of them together in Paris. They later attended the premiere of “Feud: Capote vs Swans” but Phoebe declined to comment on their relationship status during an interview with Bustle.
Arthur, who graduated from Yale University in 2021 with a major in history, is the son of photographer Mary McCartney and TV producer Alistair Donald. He was previously rumored to be dating Ava Phillippe, daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, in 2018.
The Gates and McCartney families already share close ties, as Arthur’s aunt, fashion designer Stella McCartney, is a good friend of Phoebe’s mother, Melinda Gates. “Even when I was little, she would send me stuff and little notes and I’d be so excited,” Phoebe said of Stella. “We are really deeply connected.”
Before dating Arthur, Phoebe was in a relationship with fellow Stanford student Robert Ross. She faced online backlash and racist comments about her interracial relationship with Robert Ross, who is black. Addressing the negativity during an interview with The Information, Phoebe stated, “I’m done being memed for being in an interracial relationship.”
Phoebe’s graduation follows her notable achievements in the fashion world, including attending New York and Paris Fashion Week shows, elite parties, and star-studded events. She has also become a viral social media star and landed an internship at British Vogue.
Despite her privileged background, Bill and Melinda Gates have emphasized the importance of their children forging their own paths. Phoebe, motivated to complete her course in three years to coincide with her mother’s commencement speech, expressed her determination. “I knew I had to make it happen if I could because I wanted to watch my mother deliver this year’s commencement speech as a graduate. I can’t think of a better ending!”
