Amazon MGM’s “Blink Twice” takes the lead among new releases, while “Deadpool & Wolverine” continues to dominate the summer box office, surpassing $560 million in North America.

Bollywood Fever: As the summer box office season winds down, Amazon MGM’s social thriller Blink Twice and Lionsgate’s action remake The Crow have debuted to modest numbers, trailing behind a trio of strong holdovers.

Blink Twice, directed by Zoë Kravitz and starring Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum, led the pack among new releases with a $2.8 million gross across Friday and preview screenings from 3,067 locations.

While the opening is not spectacular, the film’s light $20 million production budget provides a solid foundation if it can maintain momentum.

"Blink Twice" Outpaces "The Crow" at a Sluggish Summer Box Office Weekend

Positive reviews have bolstered its prospects, though the audience survey firm CinemaScore gave it a middling B- grade, which is fairly typical for horror-thrillers.

On the other hand, Lionsgate’s The Crow, an R-rated adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel, is struggling to break into the top five. With a $2 million gross from 2,752 locations on Friday and previews, the film is shaping up to be another disappointment for Lionsgate following the underperformance of Borderlands earlier this month.

Despite only being responsible for distribution costs after acquiring U.S. rights for about $10 million, The Crow’s $50 million production budget means it is falling short of expectations. Negative buzz and a B- CinemaScore grade further dampen the outlook for the Rupert Sanders-directed feature.

"Alien: Romulus" Scares Up $108.2 Million in Global Box Office Debut

Meanwhile, Disney’s Alien: Romulus is trailing behind Deadpool & Wolverine on the domestic charts. The sci-fi sequel earned $4.5 million on Friday, projecting a drop of around 61% in its second weekend, but will surpass $75 million domestically—a decent return against its $80 million production budget, with strong international sales boosting its overall performance.

Deadpool & Wolverine continues to dominate, reclaiming the No. 1 spot in its fifth weekend of release. The superhero adventure added $4.8 million on Friday, pushing its North American gross beyond $560 million.

Globally, it has now surpassed Minions ($1.159 billion worldwide), making it the 27th-highest-grossing film of all time. With several weeks of its run remaining, it’s poised to climb even higher on the all-time charts.

Sony’s It Ends With Us is projected to secure third place this weekend with an estimated $11.8 million in its third weekend of release.

The Blake Lively-led drama continues to perform exceptionally well against its $25 million production budget and is on track to outgross IF and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Also debuting this weekend, Affirm Films’ The Forge grossed $2.4 million from 1,818 locations across Friday and previews.

While the opening is quiet, the film’s reported low production budget and an A+ CinemaScore suggest it could benefit from strong word-of-mouth in the coming weeks, particularly within its Christian-focused target audience.

Overall, the summer box office is wrapping up with a mix of solid holdovers and underwhelming new releases, but the enduring success of Deadpool & Wolverine continues to be the standout story of the season.
