Borussia Dortmund earned a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in their Bundesliga opener, as new manager Nuri Sahin praises Jamie Gittens for his match-winning performance.
Bollywood Fever: Borussia Dortmund began their Bundesliga campaign on a positive note, securing a 2-0 victory at home against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
The win marked a successful start for new manager Nuri Sahin, who acknowledged the challenges his team faced before finally breaking the deadlock.
In a tightly contested match, Dortmund struggled to find their rhythm, with the game looking like it might end in a scoreless draw.
However, substitute Jamie Gittens turned the tide in Dortmund’s favor, scoring the opener in the 72nd minute, just moments after Frankfurt’s Fares Chaibi missed a crucial opportunity to put his side ahead.
Frankfurt pushed hard for an equalizer late in the game, but Gittens struck again on a swift counter-attack, securing the victory and earning Sahin his first three points as Dortmund’s head coach.
Reflecting on the match, Sahin admitted that his team had moments where they struggled, particularly after Frankfurt nearly took the lead. “We had moments where we struggled, the momentum was on their side especially after they almost made it 1-0.
But we scored and that’s what matters,” Sahin said post-match.
He emphasized the importance of starting the season with a win, acknowledging the difficulties of adapting to a new season, coach, and players. “It was important to start off with three points. I am relieved. (Now) we need to accelerate this process with victories.”
Sahin also had high praise for 20-year-old Englishman Jamie Gittens, whose two goals were pivotal in securing the win. “All five (substitutes) came in with extra fire… The scenes are the best testament to Jamie’s development. Without any detours, he’s on his way up. We have high expectations for him,” Sahin remarked.
As Dortmund looks to build on this victory, Sahin and his squad will be aiming to overcome the early-season challenges and continue their winning momentum in the Bundesliga.
