Brazil’s Finance Minister Fernando Haddad suggests announcing the next central bank head between August and September, with Gabriel Galipolo likely to succeed Roberto Campos Neto.
Brazil, Bollywood Fever: Brazil’s Finance Minister Fernando Haddad announced on Tuesday that he has proposed to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva that the nomination for the next central bank governor be revealed between August and September.
Haddad made this recommendation after consulting with the current central bank governor, Roberto Campos Neto, during a bank event.
Haddad noted that President Lula is equipped with the necessary information to finalize his decision on who will lead the country’s monetary authority.
However, no official date has been set for the announcement. Originally, Brazil’s government planned to disclose the nomination in August to allow time for a Senate confirmation hearing in early September.
This plan, however, has encountered resistance from some senators.
Gabriel Galipolo, the current monetary policy director at the central bank, is widely viewed as the frontrunner to succeed Campos Neto.
The decision on the new central bank head remains highly anticipated as the country navigates its economic future.
