Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Huerzeler praised his team’s resilience after a dramatic stoppage-time winner secured a 2-1 victory over Manchester United in their Premier League clash.
Bollywood Fever: Brighton & Hove Albion’s new manager, Fabian Huerzeler, expressed immense pride in his team’s tenacity after they secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Manchester United, thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Joao Pedro.
The dramatic finish at the Amex Stadium not only ensured all three points for the Seagulls but also kept them at the top of the Premier League table.
In what was Brighton’s first home game of the season, the match seemed destined for a draw as the rain poured down on the south coast.
United had a second-half goal disallowed for offside, and the game appeared evenly poised.
However, in the fifth minute of added time, Joao Pedro found the back of the net, igniting jubilant celebrations from the 31-year-old Huerzeler and the home crowd.
“It was very emotional, always when you get the win in the last minute, it is. I think we deserved to win; we had a good game, not a perfect game,” Huerzeler told the BBC. “There were also situations where United had the chance to win the game.”
Huerzeler, who is in his first season as Brighton’s manager, highlighted his team’s resilience and never-say-die attitude as key factors in the victory. “I’m very proud of the team; they showed the value of never giving up, and that’s very important to me,” he said.
The match saw a strong start from Brighton, who controlled much of the second half, only for United to equalize through Amad Diallo.
United then looked to have taken control, but Huerzeler’s proactive substitutions, including bringing on Simon Adingra, paid off.
Adingra provided the crucial assist for Pedro’s late goal, ensuring Brighton remained atop the Premier League with six points.
“Their goal, for me, was from out of nowhere. I then didn’t like losing the control,” Huerzeler reflected. “After their offside goal, I think we started to control the game again. In the end, I think we deserved to win.”
Huerzeler also singled out Joao Pedro for his match-winning contribution, praising both his offensive and defensive work rate. “Joao is a player who can decide the game with one action.
For me, it was impressive today how he worked against the ball. He had the belief he would score, and that’s something that makes him special. But in the end, it’s always a team win, and that’s most important.”
The victory against Manchester United marks a significant moment for Brighton under Huerzeler’s leadership, as the team looks to build on their strong start to the season.
