Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes remains neutral on political endorsements, but his wife Brittany sparked controversy after liking a post by Donald Trump. Discover the reactions and their implications.
Bollywood Fever: Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has consistently chosen to stay neutral when it comes to politics.
Despite being one of the most influential figures in sports, Mahomes has refrained from endorsing any political candidates, even when asked directly about his stance for the 2024 election.
Back in 2020, Mahomes joined forces with NBA star LeBron James in the “More Than a Vote” campaign, aimed at increasing Black voter turnout.
However, even then, he chose not to endorse any specific candidate. His approach remains unchanged today.
In an April interview with Time magazine, after being named one of the World’s Most Influential People, Mahomes reiterated his position, saying, “I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain President. I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research.”
While Mahomes keeps his political preferences private, his wife, Brittany Mahomes, found herself in the spotlight after liking a post by Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump on Instagram. The post, shared by Trump on August 13, outlined his platform for the 2024 campaign.
The reaction to Brittany’s engagement with the post was swift, leading her to rescind the like. On August 23, Brittany addressed the backlash in her Instagram Stories, indirectly referencing the criticism she faced.
“I mean honestly, To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to hear from childhood,” she wrote. “There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.”
Brittany has not officially endorsed any presidential candidate, but her like of Trump’s post led to disappointment among some fans, especially given her close friendship with pop star Taylor Swift.
Swift, who is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has been vocal in her opposition to Trump. Ahead of the 2020 election, Swift criticized Trump on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November, @realdonaldtrump.”
The incident has sparked discussions among fans, with some questioning Brittany’s political views and others defending her right to engage with content online as she chooses.
Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes continues to focus on his role as a leader on the field, maintaining his stance of encouraging informed voting without endorsing specific candidates.
