Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie receiver Jalen McMillan impresses in the final preseason game, showcasing his potential alongside stars Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
Bollywood Fever: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have found a promising new weapon in rookie receiver Jalen McMillan, who has been turning heads throughout the preseason.
Drafted in the third round, McMillan has quickly shown that he can be a valuable addition to an offense already boasting star receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, as well as emerging talent Trey Palmer.
In the Buccaneers’ final preseason game against the Miami Dolphins, McMillan made a statement with a 28-yard reception on the first drive of the game, catching a perfectly placed pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield.
The play highlighted McMillan’s impressive body control and ability to make contested catches, qualities that have caught the attention of both coaches and teammates.
“Just putting one up there for him, a one-on-one contested catch that [I] don’t have to make a perfect throw when a guy is able to high point it like that,” Mayfield said of McMillan’s play. “I talked about his body control and some of the things he does naturally that you can’t teach, and I think that was a really good example of it. I keep mentioning teams are going to have to decide on how they want to defend us. You can’t exactly just shade a safety over on the top of Mike [Evans] every time now; we have threats, and yeah, I’m confident where we’re at.”
With the Buccaneers’ offense under offensive coordinator Liam Coen showing promising signs during the preseason, particularly in the efficient opening drive led by Mayfield, confidence is growing as the regular season approaches.
While Tampa Bay has faced skepticism during the offseason, particularly regarding Mayfield’s ability to replicate his 2023 Pro Bowl form, the team is brimming with talent on both sides of the ball.
Evans and Godwin remain the primary stars on offense, but if McMillan and Palmer can continue to elevate their game, the Buccaneers could field an offense that is challenging for any defense to stop.
As the regular season nears, Tampa Bay’s offense appears poised to surprise its detractors and make a significant impact in the NFC South.
