The Week 5 Thursday Night Football matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons attracted 12.3 million viewers on Amazon Prime, marking a strong audience compared to previous games.
BollywoodFever: The Week 5 NFC South showdown between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons captured a substantial national audience, with Amazon Prime reporting an average viewership of 12.3 million for the Thursday Night Football game. This marks a significant rise in comparison to other Thursday Night Football matchups on the streaming platform.
For context, last year’s Week 5 game between the Colts and Broncos, widely regarded as an underwhelming contest, drew 27% fewer viewers than this year’s Bucs-Falcons game. The 2022 Week 5 matchup between the Bears and Commanders also lagged behind, drawing 5% fewer viewers than Thursday’s divisional clash.
However, the game wasn’t the highest-rated of the season. That honor belongs to the Week 4 battle between the Cowboys and Giants, which set an Amazon Prime record with 16.22 million viewers, largely driven by the massive national following of the Dallas Cowboys.
Through four weeks of the 2023 season, Thursday Night Football has averaged 14.17 million viewers, reflecting a 20% increase over last year’s numbers and a staggering 48% boost from the 2022 season’s average. As the season progresses, ratings may continue to climb, especially with high-stakes matchups like the Week 6 NFC West clash between the 49ers and Seahawks, two teams likely to be fighting for playoff spots or even the division crown.
Perhaps better commentary could elevate these already impressive ratings further, with some fans critiquing the current broadcast team of Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit.
