Caitlin Clark acknowledges her early struggles in the WNBA but has since shown significant improvement, helping lead the Indiana Fever into playoff contention.
Bollywood Fever: Caitlin Clark, after an illustrious collegiate career at Iowa, faced a challenging adjustment period upon entering the WNBA.
Despite leading Iowa to consecutive national championship appearances, her transition to the professional league didn’t come as easily as her college success.
The first nine games of the season were tough for both Clark and the Indiana Fever, with the team struggling to a 1-8 start.
Clark, the rookie star, averaged 17.6 points and 6.6 assists but shot an underwhelming 37.7% from the field.
However, Indiana turned things around in June, July, and August, going 13-8 in their last 21 games.
Clark showed significant improvement, raising her averages to 18.1 points and nine assists per game while shooting 43% from the field, helping the Fever climb the standings.
Reflecting on her growth before a recent game against the Connecticut Sun, Clark noted how much she has developed since her early-season struggles. “It feels like a different season, honestly. For myself, I feel like I was a completely different player then… back then, we didn’t really even know our identity as a team and how we really wanted to play,” she said.
Clark’s ability to acknowledge her slow start and make a strong comeback demonstrates her maturity and resilience.
Thanks to her efforts, the Fever are now in the playoff picture, holding the seventh seed if the postseason started today.
After their game against the Sun, Clark and the Fever are set for a much-anticipated showdown with the Chicago Sky on August 30.
