WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark breaks her own record for the most expensive WNBA trading card, with a Panini Instant Rookie of the Year Blue Viper autographed card selling for over $97,000.
BollywoodFever: Despite the Indiana Fever’s WNBA season coming to an end, rookie sensation Caitlin Clark continues to make headlines by breaking records off the court. The 22-year-old guard set a new milestone as her Panini Instant Rookie of the Year Blue Viper autographed card sold for $97,212.54 at a Dutch auction on Thursday. The one-of-one card shattered Clark’s previous record of $84,000 set just two weeks earlier when her Panini Instant WNBA Draft Blue Viper autographed card, also a one-of-a-kind, was sold.
Both sales surpassed Clark’s rookie salary of $76,000 and placed her second only to tennis legend Serena Williams for the highest-selling women’s sports card. Williams’ 2003 NetPro autographed card featuring a match-worn outfit sold for $266,400 two years ago.
Additionally, Panini sold seven other Clark Rookie of the Year cards on Thursday, ranging in price from $250 to $7,500, all of which sold out quickly.
Clark’s rookie season has been equally remarkable on the court. She led the WNBA in assists (337), assists per game (8.4), and made 3-pointers (122). She also topped all rookies in points per game (19.2), assists, steals, and minutes played. The Iowa alum was named WNBA Rookie of the Year and received unanimous honors for the AP WNBA Rookie of the Year award. Clark was also selected for the AP All-WNBA First Team and the AP All-Rookie Team.
