Connor McCaffery, Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend, has joined Butler University as an assistant coach, allowing the couple to stay together in Indianapolis.
BollywoodFever: Connor McCaffery, the boyfriend of WNBA star Caitlin Clark, has officially joined Butler University as an assistant coach.
McCaffery, a former college basketball player at the University of Iowa, previously worked as the basketball development coordinator for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers.
The move is a lucky break for the couple, as McCaffery will stay in Indianapolis, where both Butler and Clark’s WNBA team, the Indiana Fever, are based.
The school confirmed the hire on Monday with an Instagram post, which Clark proudly shared on her own story. “Yayy! So happy for you,” she wrote, tagging McCaffery along with a white heart emoji.
Thad Matta, Butler’s head coach, praised McCaffery’s basketball background, saying, “Connor has had the opportunity to both contribute and learn alongside one of the best staffs in the NBA.
He comes from a basketball family, and I’m excited for the impact he will have on our program.”
McCaffery, 26, played 166 games over six seasons at Iowa and is the son of Iowa’s longtime men’s basketball coach, Fran McCaffery.
His brother Patrick McCaffery will also be joining Butler for his final college season, making this a family affair.
Caitlin Clark, meanwhile, continues to shine in the WNBA, averaging 24.3 points and 8.9 assists in her last 13 games, leading the Indiana Fever to a playoff berth.
Butler University, known for its Cinderella runs to the NCAA championship games in 2010 and 2011, is looking to rebuild, having not made the tournament since 2018.
McCaffery’s experience will be vital as the team works towards future success.
