Chase Stokes Could Have Been Steve Harrington In ‘Stranger Things’
During a fan event in Huntington Beach, CA celebrating the Netflix series Stranger Things, Chase Stokes, star of Outer Banks, disclosed that he had auditioned for the role of Steve Harrington but botched the audition by forgetting his lines.
“So I actually read for Steve Harrington and forgot all the lines and absolutely effed up the audition,” Stokes admitted to Access Hollywood. He then drove eight hours back to Orlando from Atlanta, regretting his mistake.
Despite not landing the role, Stokes has nothing but admiration for the actor who ultimately portrayed Steve, Joe Keery.
“He’s so damn good as Steve Harrington,” Stokes said of Keery. “I’m super proud of him. I’ve talked to him a little bit throughout the years.”
The Duffer brothers, creators of Stranger Things, offered Stokes another character in the first season’s sixth episode.
Stokes credits the Duffer brothers for giving him that opportunity, which ultimately helped him land his lead role as John B. Routledge in Outer Banks, a show produced by Netflix. Stokes expressed his gratitude to the Duffer brothers and the producers for their part in his career development.
“I’m just thankful for the Duffer brothers for giving me an opportunity to do my job and to start my career,” he added. “If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be here, and the executive producers and the Netflix people who are part of that show were also part of Stranger Things. It’s a very full circle moment for me.”
Stokes has since continued to work with Netflix, starring in the show Outer Banks as John B. Routledge, the leader of the Pogues. The series has been renewed for a fourth season, following the release of its third season.
Stranger Things is a popular American science fiction horror series created by the Duffer Brothers. The show premiered on Netflix in 2016 and is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980s.
The plot follows a group of young friends who are on a quest to find their missing friend while encountering supernatural occurrences, secret government experiments, and a parallel dimension known as the “Upside Down.”
The show has received critical acclaim for its storytelling, characters, and nostalgic 80s theme. It has also been praised for its performances, particularly from the young cast, as well as its use of special effects and music.
Stranger Things has won multiple awards, including Primetime Emmy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and People’s Choice Awards. It has become a cultural phenomenon and has inspired a range of merchandise and collaborations, including video games and a comic book series.
