Chennedy Carter returned from health protocols to lead the Chicago Sky to a 92-78 win over the Los Angeles Sparks, ending a seven-game losing streak and boosting playoff hopes.
Bollywood Fever: Chennedy Carter made a triumphant return to the Chicago Sky lineup Friday night, helping her team snap a seven-game losing streak with a 92-78 win over the visiting Los Angeles Sparks.
Carter, the Sky’s top scorer, had missed the previous four games due to health and safety protocols but wasted no time making an impact.
Carter flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists, with zero turnovers.
“I feel good,” Carter said after the game. “It’s good to just get up and down and get my legs back under me and be out there with the girls. It was fun, for sure.”
The victory keeps Chicago in eighth place as they battle for the final WNBA playoff spot, tied at 12-22 with the Atlanta Dream but holding the tiebreaker advantage.
Carter’s return immediately boosted the Sky’s offense, which had struggled in her absence. Chicago’s 92 points were the most they’ve scored since their final game before the Olympic break.
The Sky also recorded 24 assists, their third most of the season, with Carter leading the way.
“That type of energy is contagious,” said Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon. “She does an incredible job of breaking defenses down and creating easy buckets for her teammates.”
Carter’s performance earned her a warm ovation from the Chicago crowd as she exited the game. “It means a lot,” she said. “
To feel that from not only our fans, but my teammates and my coaches, makes me feel loved, makes me feel valued. It’s an amazing feeling.”
Angel Reese also played a key role in the win, recording her 26th double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Reflecting on the team’s previous struggles, Reese said,
“Pressure breaks pipes, and I think that we came together and fought for this one tonight.”
The loss officially eliminated the Los Angeles Sparks from playoff contention.
