Chicago Bulls Eyeing Rebuild, Exploring Zach LaVine Trade to Spurs

Must read

As the Chicago Bulls focus on a rebuild, they may trade Zach LaVine, with the San Antonio Spurs’ Keldon Johnson emerging as a potential target in exchange.

BollywoodFever: The Chicago Bulls are entering a rebuild and have already moved on from key players like DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso.

Now, they are reportedly exploring trade options for star guard Zach LaVine. LaVine, who signed a five-year, $215 million contract in 2022, has become a challenging asset for the Bulls due to his recent injury history and hefty contract, which has negatively impacted his trade value.

LaVine played only 25 games last season, further complicating his marketability. Moving him would signal a fresh direction for the Bulls, allowing more opportunities for younger talent and creating a more balanced team. Many feel this rebuild should have started sooner.

In a Bleacher Report article, Keldon Johnson of the San Antonio Spurs was suggested as a potential trade target for the Bulls.

The proposed deal would send LaVine to the Spurs, while Johnson—a young, versatile forward—would head to Chicago. Johnson averaged 22.0 points per game in the 2022-23 season, though his scoring dipped to 15.7 PPG last season.

Greg Swartz from Bleacher Report noted, “The Spurs are one of the few franchises that could reasonably take on LaVine’s remaining money, given that his massive contract runs the same length of time as Victor Wembanyama’s rookie deal.”

This deal would pair LaVine with Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama, creating a dynamic duo for the Spurs.

For the Bulls, Johnson would fit their vision for the future, injecting energy and youth into the lineup. While LaVine remains an elite scorer when healthy, this potential trade could benefit both teams as they look to reshape their rosters.
