Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese breaks multiple WNBA records, including Sylvia Fowles’ single-season rebound mark. The LSU alum is now setting her sights on more unprecedented achievements.
Bollywood Fever: Chicago Sky rookie forward Angel Reese is making waves in her debut WNBA season, not only by shattering records but also by redefining what it means to be a dominant force on the court.
The 22-year-old LSU alum broke Sylvia Fowles’ single-season WNBA rebound record in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx, adding another milestone to an already historic season.
Reese’s latest accomplishment comes on the heels of breaking two other significant records: most double-doubles (23) and most rebounds (399) by a rookie, both previously held by Tina Charles.
But perhaps the most remarkable statistic of all is that Reese now has more career rebounds (418) than 74.5% of all players in WNBA history, according to StatMamba.
“Offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds is something that I know I can always do,” Reese said after Sunday’s loss. “I knew it was going to translate right away. A lot of people think it’s because I get my own [misses] but statistically, it’s not.”
Reese addressed misconceptions about her success, emphasizing that her rebounding prowess is about more than just height or cleaning up her own shots.
“People think it’s because I’m the tallest on the court, when I’m not. It’s being able to go down there and bang, doing things that a lot of people don’t want to do. Defense and rebounding wins championships. And I’ve won championships at every level by just doing that.”
As the season winds down, Reese is on the cusp of even more historic achievements. She needs to average 10.25 rebounds per game over Chicago’s final eight games to become the first player in WNBA history to reach 500 single-season rebounds.
Additionally, she’s on pace to break Fowles’ single-season record for rebounds per game (11.8) and could become the first rookie in league history to average more than 12 rebounds per game for an entire season.
Reese’s impact goes beyond just numbers. Her tenacity on the boards and ability to dominate in the paint have made her a key player for the Chicago Sky, who are looking to build a strong foundation for the future.
As she continues to rewrite the record books, Reese is proving that her game is built on more than just talent—it’s a testament to hard work, determination, and a relentless drive to succeed.
With just eight games left in the regular season, all eyes will be on Angel Reese as she aims to cap off her rookie year with even more groundbreaking achievements.
If her current pace is any indication, the WNBA could soon have a new standard-bearer for rebounding excellence.
