Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell delivers a flawless 6-for-6 performance in Week 1 against the Falcons, earning AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
In the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 1 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, several players made key contributions, but it was kicker Chris Boswell who truly stole the spotlight.
Boswell had a perfect performance, going six-for-six on field goal attempts and scoring all 18 of the Steelers’ points.
For his exceptional efforts, Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 1.
What made Boswell’s performance even more remarkable was the distance of his kicks. He nailed three field goals from over 50 yards, including impressive kicks from 57, 56, and 51 yards.
In addition to his field goal duties, Boswell stepped in to handle punting late in the game after the Steelers’ punter left in the fourth quarter with a knee injury.
Head coach Mike Tomlin praised Boswell’s performance, both in kicking and punting.
“Can’t say enough about [Boswell], not only in terms of him kicking the ball, but that punt was timely,” Tomlin said. “We all know what he’s capable of. I don’t think anyone in that locker room is surprised by what he did… I look forward to sending him out there because I know he relishes it. We’re thankful for that.”
This marks the third time in Boswell’s career that he has been honored as AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, having previously won the award in 2015 and 2017.
