Chris Martin and Maggie Rogers perform Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” in Vienna after her canceled Eras Tour concerts, with Swift addressing the cancellations and her focus on fan safety.
Bollywood Fever: Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and his opening act, Maggie Rogers, paid tribute to Taylor Swift by performing her iconic 2008 hit “Love Story” in Vienna, just two weeks after Swift was forced to cancel her Eras Tour concerts in the city.
On Wednesday, August 21, Martin, 47, and Rogers, 30, took the stage at Ernst Happel Stadium, where Swift, 34, had been scheduled to perform on August 8, 9, and 10 before canceling the shows due to an alleged terror plot.
“If this is not good, please don’t put it on YouTube because I don’t want to get in trouble with Taylor,” Martin joked before dedicating the song to Swift’s fans who were supposed to attend her Vienna concerts. He encouraged the crowd to join in, saying, “And if you could sing with us, that would be wonderful.”
The audience eagerly sang along as Martin played the guitar and Rogers delivered an emotional vocal performance reminiscent of Swift’s style. Rogers later shared a clip of the performance on Instagram, captioning it “from vienna with love 💗💗💗” and tagging Swift.
Earlier that day, Swift addressed the cancellations for the first time, sharing her feelings on Instagram. “Having our Vienna shows canceled was devastating,” she wrote. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”
Swift expressed her appreciation for the support she saw among her fans and emphasized her focus on ensuring the safety of the nearly half a million people who attended her London shows. She thanked her team, stadium staff, and British authorities for their efforts during the European leg of her tour.
Swift also explained her decision to remain silent about the incident initially, stating, “Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows.” She added that her priority was finishing the European tour safely, and she was relieved to have accomplished that goal.
Swift concluded the European portion of her Eras Tour in London on Tuesday, August 21. She is now set to take a two-month break before resuming performances in Miami this October.
