Reds’ shortstop Elly De La Cruz becomes the fifth player since 1901 to record at least 60 steals and 20 home runs in a single season, joining baseball legends like Joe Morgan and Rickey Henderson.
Bollywood Fever: Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz etched his name into the MLB history books on Wednesday by stealing his 60th base of the season during a road game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 22-year-old phenom became only the fifth player since 1901 to achieve the remarkable feat of recording at least 60 stolen bases and 20 home runs in a single season.
De La Cruz reached this milestone in the fifth inning when he successfully swiped third base after already securing his 21st home run earlier in the season.

His steal set the stage for him to score the game-tying run shortly thereafter, showcasing his all-around impact on the field.
The dynamic shortstop joins an elite group of players who have accomplished this rare combination of power and speed.
The list includes former Reds greats Joe Morgan and Eric Davis. Morgan achieved the feat twice, logging 26 homers with 67 steals in 1973 and 27 homers with 60 steals in 1976.
Davis matched the milestone in 1986 with 27 home runs and an impressive 80 stolen bases.
Base-stealing legend Rickey Henderson accomplished this remarkable statistic three times throughout his storied career.
He recorded 24 homers and 80 steals with the New York Yankees in 1985, followed by 28 homers and 87 steals in 1986, also with the Yankees, and again with 28 homers and 65 steals for the Oakland Athletics in 1990.
Most recently, Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. joined the exclusive club last year by smashing 41 home runs and stealing 73 bases, further highlighting the rarity and difficulty of achieving such a balanced offensive performance.
De La Cruz’s historic season has been a bright spot for the Reds, demonstrating his immense talent and potential as a cornerstone player for the franchise’s future. His combination of speed and power continues to electrify fans and solidify his status as one of baseball’s most exciting young stars.
