Clayton Kershaw to Return for 18th Season in 2025 After Injury-Plagued Year

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw confirms his return for the 2025 season after an injury-filled 2024. Despite missing the postseason, the 36-year-old plans to give it another shot next year.

MLB News, BollywoodFever: Los Angeles Dodgers star left-hander Clayton Kershaw has confirmed his plans to return for an 18th season in 2025, following a challenging 2024 season in which he made just seven starts, the fewest of his career.

Kershaw, 36, will not be participating in the current postseason due to a bone spur in his right big toe, which has sidelined him from play.

Clayton Kershaw Set to Make Season Debut for Dodgers on Thursday

Kershaw’s 2024 season debut was delayed until July 25 as he recovered from offseason shoulder surgery.

Reflecting on the season, Kershaw shared his determination to make a comeback.

“Obviously, I had some tough luck with my foot this year. But I want to make use of this surgery,” Kershaw stated during a FOX pregame show before Game 2 of the National League Championship Series between the Dodgers and New York Mets. “I don’t want to have surgery and shut it down. So I’m gonna come back next year and give it a go and see how it goes.”

A three-time NL Cy Young Award winner and the 2014 NL MVP, Kershaw has been a cornerstone of the Dodgers’ pitching rotation, spending his entire Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the Los Angeles team.

After signing one-year contracts in both 2022 and 2023, Kershaw inked a $5 million incentive-laden deal for the 2024 season, which includes an option for an additional $5 million in 2025.

In 2024, Kershaw posted a 2-2 record with a 4.50 ERA across 30 innings. Over his illustrious career, he has compiled a 212-94 record with a 2.50 ERA in 432 appearances, 429 of which were starts, after being selected by the Dodgers in the first round of the 2006 MLB Draft.

Despite his regular-season dominance, Kershaw’s postseason record has been more inconsistent. He holds a 13-13 record with a 4.49 ERA in 39 playoff appearances, 32 of which were starts. However, he also earned a crucial save in the 2016 NL Division Series against the Washington Nationals.

With 2,968 career strikeouts, Kershaw is on the verge of a major milestone, needing just 32 more to become the 20th pitcher in MLB history to reach 3,000 strikeouts.
