Colin Jost discusses his $280,000 Staten Island ferry purchase with Pete Davidson, his wife Scarlett Johansson’s reaction, and their plans to turn it into an entertainment venue.
BollywoodFever: In 2022, Saturday Night Live alum Colin Jost made headlines when he and fellow comedian Pete Davidson bought a decommissioned Staten Island ferry boat for $280,000.
While the purchase became the subject of many jokes, including some from Jost himself, his wife, Scarlett Johansson, has taken the unusual investment in stride.
Speaking with People on Friday, September 13, Jost humorously described the ferry as “the dumbest and least thought-through purchase” of his life.
However, he justified the expense by comparing the cost to the price of real estate, noting, “Around New York, that is a very good price per square foot.”
Initially surprised, Johansson, 39, has since supported the endeavor. “She was just like, ‘Wait, so you own this boat now?’” Jost recalled, acknowledging that Johansson now sees the ferry as something that reflects both him and Davidson.
She urged them to take it seriously and “figure out the best version of it.”
Jost and Davidson bought the ferry with plans to transform it into an entertainment venue, though progress on the project has been slow.
Jost, however, remains lighthearted about the venture, making self-deprecating jokes, including one on SNL about relying on Marvel movies—where Johansson plays Black Widow—to pay for the ferry.
Jost and Johansson, who married in 2020, have been together since meeting on the set of SNL. While the ferry project is still in development, Jost’s humor and Johansson’s support continue to keep the situation lighthearted.
