Bollywood Fever: Colombia cruised to a 3-0 win over Costa Rica in Group D on Friday, securing their spot in the Copa America quarter-finals. Goals from Luis Diaz, Davinson Sanchez, and Jhon Cordoba ensured a dominant performance from “Los Cafeteros.”

With this victory, Colombia tops their group with six points after two matches, ahead of Costa Rica and Brazil, who have one point each. Paraguay, currently at the bottom with zero points, faces Brazil later on Friday. Regardless of that result, Colombia will finish the evening first in the group, extending their unbeaten run to 25 matches as they pursue their first Copa America title since 2001.

James Rodriguez Shines as Colombia Triumphs Over Paraguay in Copa America Opener

A draw between Brazil and Paraguay could secure Colombia’s top spot in the group, potentially avoiding a challenging quarter-final against Uruguay. If not, a draw in their final group match against Brazil on Tuesday should suffice to maintain their lead.

Despite the loss, Costa Rica, with one point, still has a chance to advance. They need to win their final match against Paraguay and hope for favorable outcomes in other games.

Colombia started strong and took the lead in the 31st minute when Liverpool winger Diaz confidently converted a penalty after Costa Rica goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira fouled Cordoba in the box. As Costa Rica pressed for an equalizer, they left themselves vulnerable to counter-attacks. Colombia capitalized on this, with Sanchez outmuscling defender Juan Pablo Vargas to head Jhon Arias’ corner past Sequeira in the 59th minute. After scoring, Sanchez held up the jersey of teammate Jhon Lucumi, who missed the match due to injury.

Cordoba rounded out the scoring three minutes later, perfectly timing his run to stay onside and latch onto James Rodriguez’s long ball before calmly slotting his finish past Sequeira.

Colombia’s convincing performance secures their place in the quarter-finals, as they continue to showcase their strength and ambition in the Copa America.
