A visit to honor a deceased friend at a Colorado cemetery ends in tragedy when Ryan Trujillo-Falcon allegedly shoots Geano Eugene Chavez, leading to a fatal altercation.
Bollywood Fever: A somber visit to Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, to honor a late friend’s birthday ended in tragedy when Ryan Trujillo-Falcon, 22, allegedly shot and killed his friend Geano Eugene Chavez, 20.
The incident, which occurred on August 17, 2024, has left the community shocked and grieving.
The group had gathered at the cemetery, which was closed at the time, to pay their respects to a friend who was shot and killed two years earlier.
According to reports, the night took a violent turn after Chavez expressed feeling sick and needing to vomit.
Trujillo-Falcon reportedly became upset when Chavez suggested he might vomit on a nearby grave, leading to a heated argument.
According to the court affidavit, Trujillo-Falcon told authorities that he argued with Chavez and another mourner, Ariana Martinez, at the gravesite.
The argument escalated when Trujillo-Falcon allegedly struck Martinez with the butt of a gun after she reportedly pulled him to the ground by his hair.
When Chavez allegedly approached him, Trujillo-Falcon claimed he fired a single shot, striking Chavez in the chest.
Chavez was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead approximately an hour later. Trujillo-Falcon, who did not have a concealed carry license, admitted to deputies that he had been carrying the firearm in his waistband and had hidden it after the shooting before turning himself in.
Trujillo-Falcon now faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree assault, and unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon.
He is being held on a $1 million bond at the Jefferson County Jail.
The incident has left a lasting impact on the community, with Chavez’s brother, Romeo Chavez, expressing the family’s grief in a GoFundMe set up to cover funeral expenses. “His life was taken by a person he called a friend,” Romeo wrote, describing Geano as “the definition of a true friend.”
The cemetery, typically a place of solace, has been marked by this tragedy. Jefferson County Sheriff’s spokesperson Jacki Kelley noted that this was a first in her career: “The cemetery is a place that comforts people… but it’s not typically a place of violence.”
The cemetery management has also expressed their sorrow over the incident, stating that they are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the community continues to grapple with the senseless loss of a young life.
