Deion Sanders supports the passion of Colorado fans who stormed the field after an overtime win vs. Baylor, while some critics argue the celebration was excessive for an unranked opponent.
BollywoodFever: It’s been nearly a week since Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes secured an overtime win against the Baylor Bears, but the post-game field storming and the reactions surrounding it are still generating buzz heading into Week 5 of the college football season.
The thrilling victory, which featured a Hail Mary by Shedeur Sanders to force overtime and a game-winning fumble forced by Travis Hunter, sent the crowd into a frenzy at Boulder. Fans stormed the field, although prematurely at first, leading to backlash on social media, particularly given that the Buffaloes were playing an unranked Baylor team led by a coach on the hot seat.
After the game, Coach Prime voiced mixed feelings about the field storming, saying, “I don’t like what transpired at the end of the game, but I love what transpired at the end of the game. We have a fanbase that’s phenomenal, and we have some young kids on this campus that love and breathe CU football, and I’m thankful.”
Joel Klatt, a former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback and Fox Sports analyst, defended the fans’ enthusiasm on his podcast, applauding the excitement surrounding the game. “That was one of those moments. They just tied the game with a Hail Mary and then forced a fumble to win in overtime. What do you want them to do? That’s what makes college football so amazing,” Klatt said.
However, some college football fans found the reaction excessive, particularly for a team that has promoted itself as a powerhouse. Critics argue that a program aiming for the College Football Playoff shouldn’t celebrate an overtime win against a struggling Baylor team as though they won a championship.
While the debate continues, Sanders and Klatt stand firm in their support of the fans’ passion. Ultimately, as Sanders said, the enthusiasm of the Buffaloes’ supporters shows just how much they care about CU football.
