A Colorado teenager was shot in the face by Town Council member Brent Metz after a trespassing report in Conifer. Metz faces multiple charges including assault and reckless endangerment.

A 17-year-old boy in Conifer, Colorado, was shot in the face by Brent Metz, a Mountain View Town Council member, after a homeowner reported trespassers on her property. A

ccording to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when two teenage boys entered the property to ask if they could take homecoming photos there.

The boys parked their car at the gate and jumped the fence, intending to ask the homeowner for permission to use the location. 

Unable to find anyone, they were about to leave a note when Metz, the homeowner’s boyfriend, appeared and opened fire from his truck. One of the boys was hit through the windshield of their vehicle.

When deputies arrived, they found one teen bleeding heavily from his face, while the other was using a shirt to apply pressure to the wound.

The injured teen was quickly transported to the hospital for treatment. The boys told deputies they had no ill intentions and were simply seeking permission to take photos.

Metz, 38, was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree assault, felony menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment. Police recovered the firearm used in the incident from Metz’s truck.

According to the arrest affidavit, the teen who was shot doesn’t believe Metz intended to fire, recalling that Metz said, “Oh s***t, my gun went off.” The affidavit also states that Metz attempted to help after the shot but was pushed away by the other boy, who questioned why he had shot his friend.

Officials have not identified the teens or the homeowner involved, but Metz is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The Mountain View Town Council website confirms Metz has been a council member since last year.

This unfortunate event has left the local community shaken, and the investigation is ongoing.
